Yalta - the tourist capital of the Crimea. The city is known since the middle of the XII century under the name of Djalita. In addition to the developed tourism industry (hotels, specialized sanatoria, boarding houses), Yalta is famous for the winery enterprise "Massandra", palaces-residences of Russian tsars and nobility, unique botanical garden in Nikita, picturesque castle "Swallow's Nest", etc. By the number of attractions, Yalta ranks first in the Crimea and is rightfully considered the summer political capital of the Crimea. State Enterprise "Yalta Sea Commercial Port" - one of the first enterprises of the city that functioned when the "place" - Yalta did not yet have the status of the city.

And here is what the senator, Judge P.I. Sukhorukov in his book "The Journey of a Judge in the Crimea" in later times: "... Yalta, at first, in ancient times was founded and belonged to the Greeks, and then to the Genoese, both for one and for others it was a port city with a stone fortress, several churches ... and what happened at the end of the XV century - an earthquake, and this castle collapsed and the part of the cape on which it stood, and the inhabitants, once the port city, wandered to other villages and emptied the old city, gradually fell into decay and became a small town (village) with Christian Orthodox Church on the beach, which now totals 13 - 15 yards ... "(1805). In the times of the Crimean Khanate, the village of Yalta was a place where fishing boats and longboats moored to its berths; These berths were broken by waves and they had to be restored after each storm. After the annexation of the Crimea to the Russian Empire, the question arose about the economic link between the southern coast of the Crimea and Russia. The main obstacle was the lack of roads and the lack of harbors from Feodosia to Balaklava. On the initiative of Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory and Bessarabia Province Count MS. Vorontsov in Yalta begins the construction of a stone pier. On August 1 (August 14, according to a new style), in 1833, the first stone block in the "root of the future stone pier" was laid in solemn conditions. This day is considered the birthday of Yalta port. The construction of the port ends in 1837. The rapid growth of the village around the port begins. The population is increasing, stone houses are being built, roads are being built. By the decree of Emperor Nicholas I of March 23 (April 4) Yalta is given the status of a district town. A fertile climate, warm sea, unique nature attract Russian aristocracy, rich merchants. In the city there are luxurious mansions, beautiful palaces and manors are being built along the coast, boarding houses and clinics are opening. Yalta is gradually becoming a fashionable aristocratic resort. The port is full of stormy activity, dozens of sailing and steam vessels, yachts come. Twice more storms destroyed the port piers until in 1887 they began to build a major stone pier and embankment under the general supervision of a retired engineer-general, a hydro-builder, a remarkable local ethnographer, a resident of Yalta Alexander Lvovich Berthier-Delagard. Construction continued until 1890. Subsequently, again under the leadership of AL Berthier-Delagard, the pier and the embankment of the city were lengthened, the number of berths increased, the port and the city acquired a familiar form. In the holiday season in their palaces rest the emperor and members of his family, aristocratic aristocrats. The embankment is filled with smartly dressed ladies and gentlemen, you can see people familiar to all. Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Ivan Bunin, Leonid Andreev, Igor Severyanin, Konstantin Balmont ... Famous artists depict on the canvas steamships in the harbor and gulls above them, corners of southern nature ....
The first world, civil war, devastation ... The port facilities are destroyed, there are no ships, no other transport. Constant teams of loaders are created, they repair the berths on their own, and repair the destroyed buildings. Regular messages are opened between the port stations Mishor, Alupka, Simeiz, Gurzuf, cleaning of the water area. In 1933 the on local lines on two boats of the port "Alushta" and "Gurzuf" was transported for the holiday season of 28 000 passengers. The offshore long-distance railway station is being built. The port and the city, like the whole country, are gradually reviving to a new life. Dozens of sanatoriums are being built, the palaces are transformed into health resorts and museums, along the embankment, smartly dressed people are walking again, among them are famous writers, poets, artists. From all parts of the country, hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers come to the resort every year.
Before the war, a stormy activity is boiling in the port, a portal crane is working, 14 passenger boats are running along the coast, cargo is being processed ...
The Great Patriotic War and the period of occupation caused enormous damage to the port. The port was destroyed warehousing, the building of the port administration, the marine station, the radio station, ambulance station, mehmasterskie, garage of the port, other buildings were destroyed, as a result of the explosion a huge break was formed in the wall of the breakwater. At the bottom of the bay there are 14 sunken ships, a lot of unexploded bombs and shells.
But only a week after the liberation of the city (April 16, 1944), the remaining port workers began to restore their work in the occupation and returned. They worked with their own tools, found building materials themselves, assembled a concrete mixer, restored 2-3 berths (now berth No. 1), Active cleaning of the water area was conducted. At the beginning of the Crimean Conference in Livadia (February 1945), port facilities were prepared. In 1945 the port carried 1800 tons of cargo and 6,700 passengers, the regular Crimean-Caucasian passenger line was opened.
Selfless labor, solidarity, mutual assistance and interchangeability of the port workers of those years laid the foundation for the creation of a powerful team of highly qualified specialists, the beginning of the succession of generations of port workers whose children and grandchildren are still working in Yalta port.
Again it is time to revive and flourish the port. New docks are being built and new ones are being built, warehouses are being built, machine shops are being built on the Darsan hill, the port fleet is continuously replenished, housing is being built for its employees (19 dwellings and a children's combine for 280 places were built during 1952-1965) complex in the area of the village of Massandra, 17 berths of port stations have been built and actively operated from Sudak to Foros.
Before the collapse of the USSR, the port transported more than 6 million passengers per year on local lines for the holiday season, dozens of domestic and foreign passenger ships approached the berths of the port, and hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo were processed. After 1991, the port came hard times. Breaking old, breaking the established economic ties, new social relations ... But the port survived and retained the main thing - the core of the team of cool port specialists, port fleet, port facilities. After the accession of the Crimea to Russia, the new leadership of the port conducts an active economic policy, expanding and establishing business ties with domestic and foreign partners, and developing plans for integrated development of the port. There is every reason to look to the future with optimism.
